Welcome back!

It is hard to believe that it is already a new year. This is a busy time of year at Compass Christian Preschool. This month we will begin Gesell Testing for children in our four year old program who are considering enrolling in our Transitional Kindergarten program. Our TK program is only one of three in the Grapevine Colleyville Southlake area. It is designed for children who need an extra year before they begin kindergarten. The Gesell Observation is used to help determine a child’s “developmental age” versus their “chronological age”. This is just one tool we use in helping parents make this important decision. At our PAC meeting this month, we will discuss “Kindergarten Readiness” and provide information for you to use in preparing your child for the transition from preschool to kindergarten. For more information about the Gesell Observation please visit their website at www.gesellinstitute.org.

On Thursday, Jan. 12th, we will begin offering our Love and Logic Parenting Classes. These classes run for five weeks on Thursdays from 9:15am – 11:00am in room 220 (upstairs). Please sign up in the office with Laura ASAP to reserve your spot in the class. The only cost is $20.00 to cover the workbook we use each week. Please invite your friends and family. We will offer a class on Wednesday evenings after spring break if the day classes do not work for you. For more information about Love and Logic please visit their website at www.loveandlogic.com.

Last but not least, in February we will begin registration for the 2012/2013 school year. Current students get priority when registering for next year, this includes siblings who will be new to the program. I highly suggest you get your registration forms in on time as if most of our students return then we will have very limited openings. Registration packets will go home on Feb. 7th and are due back on Feb. 14th. Tuition will remain the same but our registration fee will increase by $10.00 included in this increase is a school t-shirt for each student. If you know someone who is interested in enrolling their child at Compass Christian Preschool please have them contact us ASAP for a tour and more information.

Texture will be in the first subject of the new year as we create amazing “texture paintings” using several different kinds of materials. There will be a short review of the things we have be introduced to since the beginning of the school year including perspective, lines, shapes and colors.

Baby it’s Cold Outside! This month in science we will be discovering the concept of changing state. We will learn the different principles of liquids and compare them to solids. We will investigate properties of ice and water, and even play with snow! We may even have a snowball war!! Wouldn’t it be great if we were blessed with “real” snow in January? We will certainly continue observing all the changes in our weather and watching how our world responds to colder temperatures. Stay warm and curious! Happy Science!

The Pre-K and TK will begin working on their Spring Programs this month. The Pre-K is doing a fun musical called BUGZ. We will have various and sundry bugs onstage this spring singing, dancing, and speaking in adorable costumes. The children will be learning the lyrics along with movements to each of the songs, in addition, each class will be featured in a “dance routine” during ”their” song. The TK will be doing a program called, IF YOU GIVE A MOUSE A COOKIE. The program is a reader’s theater performance along with a few musical numbers that feature movement and dance.

January is a new beginning and we will be learning the song, A BRAND NEW ME, along with movement. It will be our theme song for the New Year. Toddlers love repetition in songs.

By the end of the year they students will be singing all these songs in their sleep!

Daddy Daughter Dance

Join us for our Annual Daddy Daughter Dance -this is a great event for Daddy (or significant other) to break away

from their busy schedule and allow their Princess to be the center of attention for an evening. My daughter still talks about last year’s dance, and I can’t wait to make some lifelong memories this year.

Date: Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28 (choose the night that works best for your schedule)

Time: 7-9pm – Compass Center, 4201 Pool Road; Grapevine, TX

Enjoy a night of hors d’oeuvres and dancing! Tickets are $12/person.

Tickets are on sale in the Church and Preschool Office or available during our weekend services!

Each couple will receive a 4×6 personal photo to remember the night and event and if tickets are purchased before January 23rd they will receive a FREE Zebra tote bag !
