From the Director
Christmas is a beautiful time of year for families to come together to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Between the shopping, decorations, cooking, parties and other obligations the “reason for the season” is often lost or pushed aside. What do you want your children to remember about Christmas and pass along to their children? Is it that Christmas is a stressful and hectic time or a time full of love and joy?
1. Try to see things from your child’s point of view. Children do not have the skills to communicate how they are feeling. They usually won’t say “Mommy, I am tired of running errands and would like to rest now.” They will become irritable and uncooperative. Try to see their behavior as their way of communicating with you. Find a friend and trade off watching each other’s children so you can shop and run errands.
2. Try to refrain from talking about the holidays all the time. Between school, stores and television they are already being bombarded with the holiday. Children have very little concept of time. An Advent calendar can help your child gain perspective on how many days are left until Christmas.
3. Involve your child in preparations for the holiday. They can color gift tags, help get the cards ready and pick out gifts. Involving your child reminds them how valuable they are in the family. Don’t redo what they have done, let it be their creation.
If you don’t have a church home please consider joining us at Compass Christian Church for Christmas Services or one of the fun events planned in December.

Just hear those sleigh bells jingling! Ring ting tingling too! We will be ringing those sleigh bells and rocking to holiday tunes from around the world. Christmas songs are a wonderful way to create new memories and share old ones during the holiday season. Children love to share their favorites so I invite you to go caroling during the holidays. The 3’s classes have been learning new songs about the importance of Christmas and will be performing their program, “Counting Down to Christmas,” on December 12th at 1pm.
