November Newsletter

From the Director
Every year, the staff at Compass Christian Preschool focuses on a specific curriculum area for the year. Last year, we explored “Block Play” and how important it is for children to play and create with various types of building materials. We introduced new blocks into our program, we observed and recorded how the children play with the blocks as well as how to extend the learning experiences. This year we are focusing on “Literacy”.
Last month, we examined our book centers, exploring what types of books we offer the children, how often we rotate the books, how to make the center more inviting and teaching the children to love and respect the books. This month, we are learning how to read to children. How do you make it engaging, how to extend the learning during circle time and props that can be used to highlight the stories. Attached you will find an article about the benefits of reading to your children. By working together, we hope to foster a love for reading with all of our Compass students. Reading Aloud Here are some fun little videos about reading and writing. Reading and Writing.

Musical Notes
As Thanksgiving nears, our thoughts linger over warm memories of family and friends gathering around to celebrate the goodness and blessings of the past year. In music class, we are going to celebrate the season by cooking up some moves. We will dance All Around the Kitchen, pick some Paw Paws, jam to Playin’ in the Kitchen, and shake, shake, shake our egg shakers. A turkey or two may find their way into the music room. The children in the three-year-old program will be learning the songs for the Christmas program which takes place on December 12th.

Cook Children’s Toy and Pajama Drive
In November and December, we will be collecting NEW pajamas and toys for boys and girls ranging in age from infant to 12 years of age. This drive is in memory of Avery Elizabeth Stetson the daughter of one of our sweet families. There will be donation boxes located at both ends of the school.
