Autism Awareness Day
World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), observed on April 2, was adopted by the United Nations in 2007 to shine a bright light on autism as a growing global health priority. Every year on World Autism Awareness Day, Autism Speaks celebrates its international “Light It Up Blue” campaign. Thousands of iconic landmarks, skyscrapers, schools, businesses and homes across the globe unite by shining bright blue lights in honor of the millions of individuals and families affected by autism. Individuals everywhere wear blue in honor of our community.
Light It Up Blue
- Spreads awareness and understanding of autism
- Celebrates and honors the unique talents and skills of people with autism
- Brings attention to the needs of all people with autism
We will be celebrating on World Autism Awareness Day on Tuesday, April 5th.
- Photo Booth – Come take a fun picture in our special Autism Awareness photo area, we will have fun props. If you use social media, post your photos with the hashtag #LIUB to be part of the global Autism Awareness movement.
- Wear Blue – Wear blue to help raise awareness and shine a bring light on Autism as a growing public health crisis.
- Stickers – We will be giving each child a sticker to wear that says “My School Lights It Up Blue for Autism Speaks”.
- Curriculum – We will be learning about “Similarity Awareness” identifying Our Similarities, Despite Our Differences.
- Donations – Each class will be raising funds for Autism Speaks. The class with the most donations will win a pizza party!
Kindergarten Readiness Parent Meeting
On Thursday April 14th in the True North Chapel, we will have a parent meeting to discuss preparing you and your child for kindergarten. This is for parents whose children will be attending kindergarten in the fall. We will share information about forms you need for registration, kindergarten schedules and what you can do to make this transition easier for you and your child.
Spring into music! Music is a wonderful way to develop self expression. I encourage all families to explore the world of music by making up funny dances or forming your own band. This month, the music classes will be using all those instruments we explored earlier to form a band. Old MacDonald’s farm has been taken over by drums, sticks, triangles, and much, much more. We will also be exploring movement using scarves and playing an African game called Obwisana. The Fours will be learning their songs for the spring program on May 19th at 6:30.
