Notes from the Director
“Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.” The older I get the more this quote rings true in my heart. I just celebrated my ten year anniversary as director of Compass Christian Preschool and turned fifty years old in July. Both of these things and having my youngest child getting ready to go off to college are making me reflective of the years gone by. As much as I yearn to hold my son in my arms and braid my daughters hair again, that time is gone. I have said many times, I wish I knew then what I know now. Would I have been more present, played with my children more or held them a bit tighter? As I have been struggling to find peace, I came across this bible verse a few weeks ago. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.“ Matthew 6:34 So, I have been praying about what God is trying to say to me and I realize that I worry too much about tomorrow (and yesterday) and what it will bring. Those memories will always be precious to me but I need to enjoy each and every day with my children and yours. I love my big man child and even though I can’t hold him in my lap, his hugs are the best. Even though my daughter can do her own hair, I rejoice in her becoming independent and making a difference in the world. I ask of you to follow God’s word and enjoy each day with your child as tomorrow will come soon enough. – Mrs. Kim

Someone once said three minutes of music, a lifetime of memories. Music can bring back so many memories from a childhood tune of I’m a Little Teapot to the songs we played at our wedding or that favorite lullaby you sing to your baby. Music really is the fabric of our lives. I encourage you to cultivate that love of music in your children. I love when parents tell me that their child is singing songs at home! Music is a wonderful way for children to develop and explore their language skills as well as expose them to many different cultures. The 1s, 2s and 3s will explore castanets and learning to move to music from Spain and South America. 4s and TK will explore different instruments and how those instruments help express our emotions.
