From the Director
For 25 years, I have always looked forward to the beginning of the school year both as an educator and parent yet I realize not everyone feels this way. No matter if you are sending your first or last child to preschool it can cause conflicting emotions. We delight in the excitement, and yet worry over the unknown. One of the best ways we can prepare our children as they go back to school is by praying for them. The change of a new school year, new classroom, new friends and new routines can cause stress and anxiety. Praying with your children and over them is one of the greatest weapons we have to battle worries and fears.
One of the best gifts I have ever received was The Power of the Praying Parent by Stormie OMartian. When I am struggling and want to pray sometime I can’t find the right words to say. I love having a book that can give me the words that I want to use when I pray and give me verses from the bible that will give me the support that I need. The bible verse I use to inspire me this first week of school is Psalms 46:1 – “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble”. From this verse, I am praying for all of your children the following – Lord, I ask you to protect all of the children you have entrusted us with this school year. Protect them physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally, let them feel your love and protection. Amen
Coffee with the Director
On Thursday, September 19th at 9:15am, in the True North Chapel, we will have our first parent coffee of the school year. Please join us as our director, Kim Porcheddu and child advocate, Elizabeth Miller share ways to help your child adjust to school. They will answer any questions you might have about Compass Christian Preschool or your child’s development. They will also have some of our students favorite toys on display and a variety of parenting books you can check out. This is a great way to learn more about the program and meet other parents.

We are so excited to have Tara Teutsch as our new music and chapel teacher this year. Tara is a graduate of the University of Memphis, has spent many years as a volunteer teaching a choir class to children, leading worship in Children’s Church and teaching Bible Club. She is excited to teach Music and help with the chapel program each week at Compass Christian Preschool. She and her husband, Rob, have 2 children. Their son, Trey, is a student at the University of Alabama and their daughter, Rebecca, is a Senior at Grapevine High School.
Research has shown that the exposure to music from early childhood onwards helps children to speak more clearly, develop a larger vocabulary, and strengthen social and emotional skills. Music has the ability to strengthen the connection between the body and brain to work together as a team. As you dance and move to music with your child, they will develop better motor skills as well as learn the sound of tones and words. This month in Music we will be listening, moving and playing to Classical music. Our instrument study will introduce different string instruments. We encourage you to spend time this month listening to classical music at home and following your child’s lead on free dance. Psalm 104:33 “I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being.”
