From the Director

Wow! How can it be October already? This month we will be very busy at Compass Christian Preschool! It is hard to pick what is the most exciting part of this month. For me, it is making pumpkin waffles with the children. This is a 20 year tradition for me and it all began at a little preschool in New Canaan, Connecticut. Together, the children and I learn about what is a recipe, how to properly measure, how to use a whisk and what all the ingredients look and smell like. After we make the batter, the children get to eat the delicious waffles. We will send the recipe home with all of the children so you can make them at home. Your child will want to help you and most likely, correct you if you are doing it wrong.

The children I made the waffles with in Connecticut are in their mid-twenties now and I am still in contact with a few of their families. It warms my heart that so many of my former students still make pumpkin waffles with their families. I hope that you will make it part of your fall family traditions.

Here is a link to the preschool where I started my early childhood journey.

Musical Notes

Learning steady beat is very important and it is a learned skill.  Children who have the ability to keep a steady beat also have better physical coordination, pay attention for longer periods of time, are better readers and are more successful in math.  It is never too early to start learning steady beat.  This month in Music we will be listening, moving and playing to Folk music.  We are still introducing string instruments and have had an opportunity for the children to “play” a small harp, ukulele, guitar, violin and cello as well as having guests in chapel to play instruments for the children.  We encourage you to spend time this month listening and singing folk music at home – most children’s lullabies are folk songs.

School pictures will be taken on Thursday, October 17 and Friday, October 18.  Your classroom teacher will be sending home a flyer with your child’s picture day identified.
