From the Director

I have a confession. I did the unthinkable one Christmas. When our family arrived at my parents in Oklahoma, they swarmed the car to welcome us. Everyone helped carry gifts, food and luggage into the house. But in the flurry of activity, my son got left in the car. He was in the car alone for 10 minutes and it is one of his earliest memories. He had unbuckled himself from his car seat and it was tipped over. He was crying and upset. I felt like the worst mom in the world. My sweet two year old baby boy was safe and no physical harm was done. But it impacted our family in so many ways. I thought I had thought of everything to keep my children safe – purses were put out of children’s reach, doors that lead to the backyard and the lake were kept locked and my father’s gun that he kept in the bedside table was lock away.

My message to you as we move into the holiday season is to think of all the things that you need to do to keep your children safe when you are traveling, staying with relatives and going new places. Work out a plan when there is a lot of family together, who is responsible to which child and what do you need to do to keep your children safe. I never want another mother to carry the guilt I have about my mistake in forgetting my sweet boy.

I’ll love this boy to infinity and beyond!

Musical Notes

Music can help teach a child to relax and be calm.  Dr. Dee Coulter, a brain science educator says that music is “one of the most powerful tools” in the skill of self-calming.  Sing with and to your child — move to music with them.  Children need to move and sing – music can be a powerful way to connect with your child and help them learn to relax and be calm.

This month we are introducing Woodwind Instruments and Jazz Music.  If you play a woodwind instrument, we would love to invite you to come play for us during chapel one week.  Please email TaraTeutsch@mycompasspreschool.com

Below is a list of some of the songs we have been singing in chapel and music class:
