From the Director
Happy New Year! As we enter into 2020, we are humbled by the opportunity to be in your child’s life. One of the greatest benefits of being with young children is that we get to hug them and they get to hug us. We hug when we are happy, when we are sad, when we greet each other and sometimes hugs just happen. As we move into this new year, cherish the hugs that you receive and give more happy hugs. Hug until the other person breaks the hug, it is amazing how long some children want to hold a hug, they need it. The following paragraph from Gary Smalley reminds us that God wants us to bless each other with a loving touch.
Meaningful touch was an essential element in bestowing the blessing in Old Testament homes. So it was with Isaac when he went to bless his son. We read in Genesis 27:26 that Isaac said, “Come near now and kiss me, my son.” This incident was not an isolated one. Each time the blessing was given in the Scriptures, a meaningful touch provided a caring background to the words that would be spoken. Kissing, hugging or the laying on of hands were all a part of bestowing the blessing. Meaningful touch has many beneficial effects. The act of touch is key in communicating warmth, personal acceptance, affirmation, even physical health. For any person who wishes to bless a child, touch is an integral part of that blessing. Hugging has all kinds of benefits. Body autonomy is important, too. It is important that we teach our children how to kindly refuse a hug.

Developing a sense of steady beat helps with everything from speech to math so we will continue to use steady beat in class along with dynamics. We will begin talking about Brass Instruments and hopefully will be able to have some friends come to play for us during chapel. A unit about Texas in January means we will be listening and moving to country music this month. As always, we want learning to be fun and believe that kids learn best while playing so we will continue to make music interactive, creative and playful.
